Day 8

Setting Goals

Today we discussed setting some goals with Shelby.  Her spirits seemed a little off, the Doctor's say this is normal.  We think the medication is playing a part in it.  Anyway she was accepting of the "goal" attitude we want her to have.  Knowing her ability to accomplish what she wants we felt this road to take.  Her first goal is to take a bath. She also wants to go outside today and get some fresh air, since the weather is so nice we think this is a perfect goal.  I asked Shelby "Are you going to beat this illness or is it going to beat you?" She replied with a big smile "I am going to beat it!" I then told her "then that is our number one goal".  At some point today she is going to get on the computer and do some "Blogging", and then maybe watch some TiVo.  We are all going to watch LOST tonight as a family.

I will update this as we get throught the day.

Day 9

Shelby had to be taken to the hospital at 11 pm last night. She was running a 104 fever and was really burning up. Bart came over and whisked her to the hospital. Charlene met Bart at the hospital after tucking Justin into bed. She was there for about three hours and came home with a lower fever and a breathing device to exercise her lungs.

Her spirit is a little down in the dumps today. She doesn't want to log onto the web site or do her blogging. She did start doing her homework today, so that is a start. The Doctor's tell us that her behavior is normal, as she may be overwhelmed from all of the attention. Since I have not been able to get Shelby to say thank you for all of the gifts and flowers - I will say it for her. We must thank all of you for your flowers and gifts that you have sent or dropped off at this house. I am sure she appreciates it, and will be acknowledging you soon.

Today was a bad day !

Day 10

Well we all are waiting on pins and needles at this point in the game.  Monday is the day that we will all know what our next course of action for 100% recovery is.
Shelby has been running a low grade fever, pretty much since she got out of the hospital.  We want to get her out and about, but we also don't want to have her be run down.
This morning (Fri.) I woke Justin up at 6:30am to get ready for school.  After I took him to school I figured I would lay down for a few more hours, while Shelby slept.  At 9:30am Shelby woke me up complaining about a little rash that was very itchy.  As I woke up I took a look at the rash, which, while I was looking at it, it was spreading.  I got on the phone to Dr. Budnick and he fit us right in to an office visit.  When we got there Shelby's whole back, front, arms and parts of her face had the rash.  When the Dr looked at it he said that he believes it is from the pain medication that she is on.  He suggested to discontinue those meds and get a med that will stop the itching and make the rash go away in a couple of days.
This is quite a normal thing, to someone who has been through this type of thing before.  But to all of us we try to remember what our own "normal" life was like.  Sometimes you just wish we could turn back time.  But if we keep looking back, then we can never move foward.  Some of us, when going through tough situations, have different outlets...some people work to deal with stress, some people clean to deal with stress, and some of us write to deal with stress.  So thank-you for allowing some of us to deal with our stress via the internet.
Well Shelby is resting comfortably now, so until our next edition, as always...

Thanks
Daddy

Day 11

Well Shelby woke up and the rash was almost gone, and her fever seems to be somewhat stabilized.

We made plans to go see the Nutcraker, featuring Victoria..yea..yea..

I have pictures of the show coming once I get them  developed.

Today was a great day, we look foward to more of these.

Got a poem the other day from one of Shelby's friends and I would like to share it with you.  I won't say who wrote it, unless she wants me to.

SHELBY

Having you for such a good friend, hoping the adventures will never end.

Through thick and thin we have stuck together, the memories and our friendship will last forever.

We make my world spin round and round,I'm so lucky for this good friend I have found.

You are the one who fills my life with fun. All the jokes and laughs I can never forget these great times I will never regret

Your a once in a lifetime friend you know Your always there when I'm feeling low

Shelby, I'll always be there for youtrust me, there is nothing I would not do, For such a good friend like YOU.

Day 12

Well Sunday, Shelby had woken every one up.  We all talked and decided to go to the Methodist Church in Absecon.  We went there before and had enjoyed it.  So anyway, we all got up and went to church.  It was very uplifting and we noticed that they have Christmas Caroling next Sunday.  Sounds like a lot of fun :-)
After Church we went to the Sunryser.  Boy do they have some great clam chowder!!  After we ate we went to AC to pick up her Aunt Shelly.  Then we went to Port Republic to cut down our Christmas Tree.  It was a pretty busy day and then Shelby & Justin went to their Mom & Rodney's house.
Ohh...by the way I wanted to also congratulate Rachel who was in the Nutcracker with Victoria.
Today was a great day!
Thanks
Daddy
